30 Day Photography Challenge

Happy New Year, guys!  I hope you all had a great Holiday season.  Mine was great...full of relaxation and family time.

To start the year off, I am going to be posting a series of pictures for a 30 day photography challenge.  I came across this idea on pinterest and decided to do this for the new year.  There is a list of 30 pictures to take, one for each day.  Hopefully this will flex my creative muscle a little more and bring on some great ideas! Some of the posts may have just an image, and some may have more details.  Depends on my mood for the day.  Instead of posting 30 times, I might be combining days into one post.  This is all to say check back often or follow me (on the right of this screen) so that you know when I post something new!

Turquoise + Lime

This is the color scheme for one of our Christmas trees.  Yes, we have two this year, our main one in the living room and this little cutie in the front window (visible to the neighborhood at night).  It would be hard to part ways with this tree since it's the first tree that Simon and I had together.

Graphic Design 101

I came across some of my first creative/abstract/wtf graphic design experimental pieces a few weeks ago.  Just thought I'd share.

Hiatus

Hi!  I hope you all are doing well!  Just to let you know, I will be going on hiatus for one month.  No blogging, no social networking, just getting in touch with other areas of my life (and nature!).  Check out my other blog for a little more info.

Until then...

Helvetica Neue

This is my absolute favorite font.  It's so pretty.  It's sexy.  It's thin.  I would compare this font to a top shelf margarita on a hot summer day!  In fact, this is one of the fonts that I use in my logo.  See?

Since this is a thin font, it can be seen as feminine, luxurious and/or modern.  This would be fitting for a woman's brand or product, but with the right colors, imagery and words, this can be masculine as well.

Here are a few examples of where this font was used.

So, what's your favorite font and why?

Artsy Fartsy

Yeah, that's me. I'm an artist. I may not wear thick framed black glasses every day {the stylish type}, I may not have an avant-garde hairstyle, I may not wear mismatched clothes and I may not cut my ear off and send it to my lover...but doggonit I'm an artist! Here's proof:

I started this painting on Monday evening and finished Tuesday night. Pretty good for a decisive person in training wouldn't ya say? Now I have to decide if it's going to stay on the mantel or hang above the buffet in the dining room...

*Okay, I realize that was possibly stereotypical of artists, but I meant it in all fun. No harm intended :)

Myers Maison!

Hello! It has been far too long since I have posted, but I plan to improve! One reason is that I have started a new blog because I decided to separate business ventures and graphic design from home ventures and decorating. So...check out the new blog if you're interested in seeing the happenings at the Myers' household decor wise and otherwise!

Skulduggery

This is totally random, but I was watching the first Batman movie this past October, and I heard this quote from the Penguin:

"Now hear this, now hear this. This is your Captain speaking. My fine pinioned pirates, we're approaching the tricky buoy! Sharpen your cutlasses! There may be skulduggery ahead!"

I have a Dictionary app on my phone, so I looked up Skulduggery and the definition is:
Dishonorable proceedings; mean dishonesty or trickery: bribery, graft, and other such skulduggery.

Immediately this word started making cameos into my everyday conversations. Since it was around Halloween, it also felt fitting to say "Skulduggery or treat!"

Dialogue and the choice of words in movies seemed to be better back in the 40's, 50's and 60's. They utilized great words, it's mind-boggling to see how far we have moved away from it.

Okay, done with the random thoughts.

Kitchen Thoughts

I'm officially in decorating mode. We just finished making our curtains a couple of days ago {more on that later} and I finally decided on a color to paint the kitchen! This is HUGE because I have a problem making decisions especially when it comes to colors. One thing that I vowed to do this year was to be more decisive, and it's going well thus far.

I've been looking for some kitchen lighting to replace the fluorescent rectangular standard fixture that our house came with. I want something a little more luxurious/modern/rustic {if there is such a fixture out there please leave a link!}. I also want my kitchen to give a feeling of happiness when you walk in it. I want the kind of kitchen that makes you want to cook when you're in it. Here are a few images that I fell in love with. I searched for French Kitchens {since I do have a love affair with France}.

I LOVE this kitchen. The brick with the crystal fixture and hints of grey and white looks lovely to me.

These lanterns are cute; I like the concept of multiple small fixtures hanging from the ceiling.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this kitchen. So simple and chic. I could definitely see myself preparing a meal in here.

I love these fixtures and the clean look with pops of color.
Something about this image just makes me smile. It looks very inviting with all of the spices, oils, tools, etc. nicely organized by the stove. I also love that exposed brick.

Is anyone else working on a special room at the moment? Where do you go to find inspiring images?

Mood Music

I love music. So many genres it's hard to name them all. I like to think of myself as cultured when it comes to music. I find that I perform better when music is playing. Cleaning, cooking, working, reading, they all call for different types of music.

This is what I like to listen to in the following situations:

Driving to Work-

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Pharrell/N.E.R.D.

J*DaVeY

Roisin Murphy

Working-

Bossa Nova/Latin Jazz {Astrud Gilberto, Stan Getz, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Tito Puente}
{Astrud Gilberto}

Chill {Zero 7, Air}

Radiohead

Beck

Driving Home-

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Electrik Red

Pharrell/N.E.R.D.
Cake

Cooking-

Classic Jazz {John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra}
{Duke}
Chill {Zero 7, Air}

Cleaning-

90's satellite radio
Grunge
Old School rap

{Salt-n-Pepa}

These can change up at any time, but it's an overall view of my day in music.

What about you?
